Custom SPLat: What makes SPLat unique?

SPLat blurs the distinction (chasm?) between off the shelf controls and custom controls. Before SPLat you had 3 broad choices for controls in a product: Off the shelf PLCs, off the shelf single board computer (SBC) products or a full custom (usually microprocessor based) embedded system controller.

SPLat combines the best of each, plus some fresh new ideas, to give you a spread of solutions that give you a smooth path all the way from low cost, easy to use off the shelf products for early stage work through to custom SPLat controllers for volume manufacture.

One of the keys to understanding SPLat, and why it costs less than alternative solutions, is to realise that we are very big on finding solutions that are appropriate and not over designed. For example, we incorporate temperature sensing in a lot of our designs, using a low cost thermistor technique. This is not a precision system. In fact, it has limited accuracy and resolution. But if you are making an industrial cleaning system do you think it really matters if the water is at 84°C or 86°C? So would you rather spend $10 for 1°C accuracy and 0.5°C resolution, or $200+ for 0.1°C performance? By the way, we can do the other as well. We make controllers for autoclaves that PID control to ±0.1°C
