XBIO16: Connecting to a SPLat controller

The XBIO16 needs to be connected to a SPLat host controller. The connection is made from the SPx connector of the controller to the SPx IN connector on the XBIO16 board. You can cascade several XPice boards by daisychaining SPxOut on one board to SPxIn on the next.

A suitable cable for making this connection is the SPXC60, a 60cm long cable assembly supplied by SPLat Controls. If you buy the XBIO16DK (Developer’s Kit), the cable is supplied as part of the kit. Alternatively you can make your own.

You also need to supply power. Normally the board will run off the same power supply as the controller (and any other XPice boards). We recommend running separate wires back to the power supply for each board. This will help maintain a “star point” ground connection, which is a good strategy for reducing noise problems.
