While classified as a SPice board, the SPice10203 is not mounted “piggy back” onto the SPLat controller board like most other SPice boards. Instead the board needs to be suitably mounted on the front panel of your equipment then plugged into the controller via its connection cable. We do not provide mounting panels or graphic (membrane) overlays for it. Dimensioned drawings will be provided in our online file resources and on the Resource Kit CD.

Mechanically the SPice10203 will normally be mounted behind your metal panel, with holes cut in the panel to clear the push button switches. A plastic graphics overlay is then stuck down on the outside. The concept is just like that illustrated in the MMi99 product documentation. The spacing between the board and the panel is super-critical, unless you are using a custom graphics overlay with embossed buttons. If the board is too far off the panel, it will be difficult or impossible to depress the overlay enough to activate the buttons. If the board is too close to the panel, the buttons will press permanently against the overlay and be accidentally activated. The correct spacer length is 9.5mm less the panel thickness. We use nylon spacers. These are slightly compressible, and allow some fine adjustment of the spacing by adjusting the torque on the mounting screws.

When mounting the board to the panel, make sure to be consistent with the orientation from unit to unit.

The board needs to be plugged into the 12-pin SPice connector on the controller board. On the MMiXXX you must also remove the option link labelled IN13.
