PIDassist: Saving and restoring configurations

You can save your settings to a file. We call this a configuration file. Configuration files have the file name extension .pid.

There is a default configuration file called, believe it or not, Default.pid. This is the configuration loaded at startup.

Use the File menu to open and save configuration files.

As you fiddle around with settings you may wish to return to a previous setting. The Edit menu provides you with Undo and Redo functions. The undo (CTRL+Z) takes you back to where you were the last time you “unpressed” the Pause button, i.e. resumed simulation. Because clicking many of the configuration items automatically Pauses simulation, this means one full “session” of changes is captured at once. Changes that do not result in pausing simulation are captured on the fly. The status bar at the bottom of the PIDassist screen contains an indicator of how deep the Undo’s are nested. Redo (CTRL+Y) winds the “tape” forward. The undo is reset when you load a configuration file.
